What is the migration process for eNICQ 6?

If you are an existing eNICQ 5 user, administrator, or provide IT support to an eNICQ 5 installation, the migration process is relatively simple.  This is a brief overview of the process.

  1. Decide on a conversion date for your move to eNICQ 6.  Make sure that all necessary IT staff and end users are available for installation and user verification.
    • Desktop Support for installing the client application.
    • Database Administrator (DBA) to assist with DB creation, authentication, security.
    • Systems Administrator to grant permissions, set up AD groups if they are used.
    • VON Services Administrator if VON logins are being used.
    • End user to confirm that application works with permissions granted.
  2. Complete data entry and submission in eNICQ 5.  Decide on a milestone or cutoff point for your data entry and submission in eNICQ 5.  Complete all entry and submission for records in eNICQ 5 up to your stopping point.
  3. Export all your data from eNICQ 5 using Tools... Save Data to File.  Select "All data."  Create a file in CSV format and a second file in XML format.  Test each file by attempting a re-import under Tools... External Data Interface in eNICQ 5.  Any data quality errors should be uncovered and resolved at this stage.
  4. Make a backup of your eNICQ 5 database at this point to serve as an archive.  Confirm that all team members are ready to freeze eNICQ 5 activity and move to eNICQ 6.  You will NOT restore this database for eNICQ 6.  It will not be compatible.  The purpose of the SQL backup is to enable rollback or to allow the old eNICQ 5 database to be queried.
  5. Complete the installation and setup process for eNICQ 6.  This will create a new database instance on SQL Server and a new client instance on the work station.
  6. Complete user account creation in eNICQ 6 for your end users.  User accounts will not be imported from eNICQ 6 and must be created manually or via AD integration.  Full instructions are included in the eNICQ 6 Installation Guide.
  7. Import either your CSV or XML text data file into eNICQ 6.  Complete user verification in eNICQ 6.  Users should confirm that all necessary data is present and that the eNICQ 6 application is operating.
  8. On beginning data entry in eNICQ 6, the registration for the eNICQ 5 database will automatically expire.  Uninstall the eNICQ 5 client application from any desktop machines.  On the SQL Server side, deactivate the old eNICQ 5 database.
